ANDY ASH Andy was born on July 14th 1949 in Colne, Lancashire. At 11years old, he learned to play guitar and began listening to lots of different music, ranging from Blues to Jazz, taking in the country and the modern day "pop music" along the way. He then started to learn the piano, being tutored by his next door neighbour, who was a jazz pianist. When he was 12, he joined his first band, took up the bass guitar and began playing the local youth centres and working men's clubs around Lancashire. At 17, Andy worked out in Germany and began touring as a bass player with bands, supporting several American acts such as Edwin Starr, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and William Bell. After returning to the UK, he completed his education at college but continued playing in bands at weekends. In 1990 he formed a duo called "ASH & CO" with his wife, Lyne and began playing cover versions and also music from the likes of George Strait, Hank Williams Jnr, Garth Brooks and Mary-Chapin Carpenter. They toured for 3 years, but unfortunately, Lyne became ill and the duo had to come "off the road". In 2000, Andy went back touring, playing the cabaret and club circuit as a solo act. In 2006, Andy met up with Kris and decided to form the duo, RED DIRT ROAD, to perform good country music delivered with a little touch of humour that will appeal to both Line Dancing and Listening venues.
